Hawaii: A Filmography
Since Edison photographers passed through Honolulu in 1898 and shot the first motion pictures here, the islands of Hawaii have hosted thousands of productions, among them some of the most popular films, television series, and commercials ever created.
Hawaii has hosted hundreds of feature films since 1913. Eight of these have entered the coveted category of the “Top Grossing Movies of All Time at the Worldwide Box Office”: Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Godzilla, Pearl Harbor, Dinosaur, Jurassic Park III, andWaterworld. Together, their theatrical runs have produced more than $4 billion in gross revenues, 15 Academy Award nominations, and nine Oscars.
Since 1968, Hawaii has hosted 23 major television series, includingHawaii Five-O, Fantasy Island, Magnum P.I., Tour of Duty, Jake and the Fatman, Raven, The Byrds of Paradise, Baywatch Hawaii, North Shore, Hawaii, Flight 29 Down, andLost.
In addition to hosting whole series, Hawaii has hosted the production of over 700 individual television episodes of well-known shows such as The Lucille Ball Show, I Dream of Jeannie, Beverly Hills 90210, The Brady Bunch, Charlie’s Angels, Murder She Wrote, China Beach, Eight is Enough, The Rockford Files, ER, andLas Vegas. Not to mention thousands of commercials, music videos, photo shoots, and locally produced films and television programs.
